We surveyed all the women in our (very active) company about the kinds of gifts that make them happiest over the holiday season. When it comes to hostess gifts, white elephant gifts, or just something unexpected from a friend, wine found its way onto nearly every list. These types of wine are sure to please every occasion, price point, and palate.

White Wine

This light-bodied dry white wine is crisp and full of bright and fresh fruit notes. It’s perfect as an pre-dinner kick starter, or paired with first-courses like spinach salad or scallops. Principessa Gavia Gavi Pinot Grigio $17, drizzly.com

Red Wine

For the one on your very-very-nice list, this artisan wine is hand-crafted and aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months. The result? A dark, rich, mouth-filling red with ripe flavors of blackberry and touches of spice and vanilla. San Simeon Stormwatcher 2015 Bordeaux Blend $70, sanantoniowinery.com

Rose Wine

Because who says you can’t celebrate summer year-round? This wine is a great companion for any occasion, with bursts of cherries, strawberries, and watermelon and a refreshing, dry finish. Hampton Water Rose 2018 $25, wineonsale.com

Champagne

For bubbly without breaking the bank, this bottle is cuisine and cocktail-friendly. Mix with elderflower or top with fresh pomegranate arils for seasonal flare. Le Grand Courtage Blanc de Blancs Brut $22, legrandcourtage.com

Canned Wine

A fun and trendy addition to any happy hour. (Our staff can attest, they were a hit at ours.) Crisp and refreshing, this lighter alternative is gluten-free and vegan, made from organic grapes, with only 6% ABV. Archer Roose Rose Spritz $11 for pack of 4, convivewines.com

Wine Subscription

What’s better than one bottle of wine? A monthly wine subscription! Get six 750ML bottles (your choice of reds, whites, or mixed cases) to your door every month. HelloFresh Wine $89 per month, hellofresh.com
