The renumber activity IDs feature in Primavera P6 Professional is helpful for adding or editing an activity ID prefix. But what if you want to insert an activity ID suffix? Yes, it is possible to add an activity ID suffix in Primavera P6 Professional.
Primavera P6 Professional renumber activity IDs feature supports activity ID naming conventions, e.g. you may want to prefix the activity ID with letters that are parts of the respective work breakdown structure (WBS). However, what if your naming convention requires the addition of a suffix to the activity ID name? This is possible not in the renumber activity IDs feature, but in the global change tool.
This article demonstrates a quick tip on how to insert a suffix to the activity ID name in support of your schedule’s naming convention.
We have in Figure 1 our demonstration project.
Figure 1
This is a schedule that has activity IDs including the activity ID prefix ‘P’. We want to add the suffix Underground Pipe Repair (UPR). We achieve this by implementing the global change tool, Figure 2.

Our global change routine to add the suffix ‘-UPR’ is displayed in Figure 3.

Summary
The renumber activity IDs feature in Primavera P6 works great to update an activity ID’s prefix. However, inserting an activity ID suffix requires the global change tool. The global change tool is a robust feature in Primavera P6 Professional for automating updates to the schedule, and it is suitable for inserting an activity ID suffix.
