Setting up User Preferences in Primavera P6 EPPM is an important task before commencing scheduling a project. As the name suggests, ‘My Preference’ is the section that lets you customize the data display format across all sections of Primavera P6 EPPM, allowing you to display the data and EPPM features, in a more personal manner.
Properly setting the User preferences is important to creating a schedule that supports the general guidelines that you may be working with and can also support projects having short; or unusually long durations.
By defining User Preferences, inputting activities and supporting their durations as well as their associated resources will ensure your project meets any specifications or personal preferences.
The Currency selection enables you to select the correct currency you are working in; the date allows you to select the personal format you desire. The Time Stamp helps to determine when an activity starts so that its duration can be recorded, this can be toggled off if you are printing your schedule for the Project Manager or Stakeholders as often it is hard to print schedules on one sheet of paper.
Accounting of resources time is determined by Units /Time Format and offers two choices; ‘Show as a percentage’ or ‘Show as units/duration.’ For example, if your resource is assigned a limit of eight hours/day and he is assigned to a task at a maximum limit of two hours/day, you can display this information one of two ways: as 2h/d or as 25% of his resource limit, as he is only assigned to this task for two of his allotted eight hours per day.
