Wilson Parking and Dexus collaborate to host MPavilion event

Wilson Parking, Australia’s leading parking operator, is collaborating with Dexus, Australia’s largest office landlord and MPavilion, to support the latest arts and cultural event in the centre of Melbourne, located at the Dexus and Wilson Parking managed property, Parkade.The annual MPavilion event is part of an ongoing initiative of the Naomi Milgrom Foundation and is supported by the City of Melbourne, the State Government of Victoria through Creative Victoria and Development Victoria, and RACV. The concept typically introduces a new architecturally designed pavilion that is created for the event and then gifted for the community to enjoy. This year however, MPavilion, sought to re-purpose the pavilions from previous years and other buildings of architectural importance around Melbourne.

Parkade was the ideal location, combining the requisite of an architecturally designed building, it’s central location and the bonus of re-purposing an existing car park to accommodate an exciting event space.

Stephan Wuffli, CEO Wilson Parking Australia comments;
“Wilson Parking is always looking for ways to elevate the practical space of a car park and deliver something new and exciting for customers and the broader community. Car parks are of course a significant part of the infrastructure, located in great city-centre locations. For this reason, and particularly in times like these when car parks are not being used to their full capacity, MPavilion at Parkade provides a great opportunity to deliver not only an alternative use, but a multi-purpose space that the broader community can benefit from.”

The MPavilion event runs from November 2020 – April 2021 and is delivered, amongst other locations, on the Parkade rooftop. This combination of event space and car park provides an exciting way to use space within the city and gives customers ease of access to the event, with the ability to park directly underneath.
As parking and commercial real estate are key infrastructure hubs of the community of which they are located, the use of car park space in this way is an exciting way to bring together the functional purpose of the car park and a vibrant community space.

A Dexus spokesperson said:
“We were pleased to offer the Parkade car park rooftop as a key cultural destination for the MPavilion event to support visitors returning to the city. Repurposing this space whilst car parking is underutilised showcases how we can derive further value from existing assets and use them for different community purposes.”
