Project Managers overseeing medium-sized and large projects working with Primavera P6 often request specific areas of the project for a variety of different reasons. Medium-sized and large project schedules can be complex and integrated often making it harder to pinpoint the exact data required quickly.
Reasons why specific areas of a project may be exported
- The client may want to review some data. They may not be proficient in Primavera P6 but will be able to receive data in the universally accepted Microsoft Excel.
- To display and printout areas of the project for stakeholder meetings, where only a section of the project may be discussed or reviewed.
- The Project Manager may need to collate certain areas of the project from different project teams, for example, the Procurement Manager will provide vastly different data than the Resource Manager.
- As a comparison of data at a vital part of the project i.e. an upcoming project milestone.
- Data Requests between different teams or colleagues that will assist them in their work.
If you need to export P6 project data, Primavera P6 supports exporting this in seven different formats, including the web-based version Primavera P6 EPPM, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel. Users can select areas of a project or a whole project and export them in the version that the recipient of the data can read. If a scheduler is unsure what version of software the recipient has, they can export it in an early version of the software and it will be transferable for the intended recipient.
