Hull FC signing Darnell McIntosh has hit a huge milestone in his recovery from a ruptured Achilles.

The winger picked up the injury while playing against the Black and Whites for Huddersfield Giants back in June and he has been working his way back towards fitness ever since.

McIntosh has been working closely with the club’s medical staff since starting pre-season with his new team-mates on November 1 and it seems he is edging towards being given the go ahead to join in training.

After spending the last month in the gym working on his fitness and leg strength, McIntosh got out onto the field for the first time this morning.

He took to social media to deliver the update with a short clip of him jogging across the turf.

“First grass run since injury,” he wrote on Instagram. “Small steps to build on for start of season.”

The 24-year-old will hope to continue making swift progress in his rehabilitation, but he still has some time to wait before he can be considered fully fit.

McIntosh revealed to Hull Live earlier this month that he has the week of Christmas circled on his calendar as the time he hopes to be able to join in full training with new team-mates.

He’ll hope to be able to get some game time in a friendly or two in January, too, in order to make sure he’s ready for round one on February 13 against Wakefield Trinity.

McIntosh will also be encouraged by the progress Josh Griffin is making in his own recovery from a ruptured Achilles.

The centre is about a month further on in his recovery process and after getting involved in light training on day one of pre-season, he could be seen leaping confidently over a fence during a running session on Beverley Westwood last week.
