  • haiku
  • personification

  • cinquain
  • bio
  • 5 senses

However you choose to complete it, your students will love having their own personal book to publish!

PEDAGOGY

This product was created with the gradual release model in mind. For each type of poem introduced in the book, there is an example for students to use as a reference, a scaffolded prompt to complete together as a class or small group, and a blank template for students to write their own.

HOW CAN I USE IT?

Teach one type of poetry at a time, in any order that you prefer. Depending on how much time you have for poetry, you could spend one day, a few days, or even one week on each type of poetry. Give students the entire book and let them work at their own pace, or give students each page as you cover specific types of poetry.

WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

Many grade levels include standards involving reading, analyzing, and comprehending poetry. Use this book as a tool to practice close reading poetry. This book will also aid you in meeting all of those writing standards involving using appropriate conventions and publishing with teacher support. This book is versatile, so make it work however you wish!
