I frequently am asked to speak on the Case for #OlderWorkers and #Intergenerational Teams, absolutely my favorite topic. And some of the things I talk about are simple to do, like these "3 Rs." Your organization will gain so much once you commit to REJECTING generational stereotypes (which research shows are unfounded), RETHINKING the assumptions that you're making, and REACHING OUT to someone younger or older. BONUS: Did you know that intergenerational connection is one of the best ways to reduce #ageism? What will YOU do this week, for Global Intergenerational Week? #GIW24 If you'd like me to speak to your organization on this topic, contact me here. https://lnkd.in/gMHmgBng Note: the photo in the image is by Eye for Ebony on Unsplash
I love your 3 Rs Janine! I agree that rejecting generational stereotypes, rethinking assumptions, and reaching out to others are all important steps toward creating more inclusive workplaces. I'm also a fan of intergenerational connection and believe it can help to reduce ageism.
Janine Vanderburg Again on point with how we can all be "the change we want to see in the world"!
I agree that rejecting generational stereotypes, rethinking assumptions, and reaching out to others are all important steps to creating more inclusive workplaces. Intergenerational connection is one of the best ways to break down barriers and create a more welcoming environment for everyone. #GIW24
Love this, Janine Vanderburg, and coincidently the series I've been running here, today focuses on embracing the wisdom of midlife leaders. Sometimes they lose owning it themselves as they navigate the complexities of their organization and their own personal crossroads. I hope you'll take a look.
This amazing woman teaches brutally hard work out classes at the local YMCA. And she laughs, talks and teaches while doing it! I asked her if I could share her photo - heck yea she said. Thanks for the inspiration! No stereotypes for her!
These are so powerful, Janine Vanderburg; I especially love the thought-provoking questions within the first two to get the conversations going. Connection is so important in every area of our lives, but I totally agree they can be even more enriching across generations!
Given longer lifespans it’s Four generations now. And rate of change over 100 years is much greater now.
The three Rs are excellent tips for building emotional intelligence! High performing organizations thrive with leaders who think this way. Approaching people with these heuristics will transform relationships both in their professional and personal lives. Excellent advice Janine Vanderburg!
Love this, Janine - having these discussions around assumptions is so important. So often, folks make generalizations that just aren't true. Have the conversation to really understand where others are coming from.

1wI love the term “intergenerational team”. Dr. Becca Levy in her book “Breaking The Age Code” mentions something tangentially related that Margaret Mead wrote: “The continuity of all cultures depends on the living presence of at least three generations." I’ve referred to this in business by writing that your odds of success as a startup would likely be improved by having some ideal number of grey haired Baby Boomers, Millennials, Gen X'ers, Alphas., etc.
